Reflecting upon Facilitation, Leadership, and Success
We know the words, “Success is a journey, not a destination.” My journey started at the age of two in the context of Erik Erikson’s developmental theory, “autonomy vs. doubt”, when I told my mom, “I will do it mine own self!” Although I was not a stellar student, I decided to pursue a career in education. That’s when I realized WHY my schooling didn’t work for me, and I was on mission to provide a quality education for all!
With the opportunity to explore, experience, and reflect upon education through a number of expert mentors, I learned about child development and how to implement developmentally appropriate practices to successfully engage students in learning. It was time to put theory into practice by facilitating opportunities for students to explore relevant topics and curriculum in context. As a measurable result, I could see, hear, and feel students making connections. In 1999, when I was named the Sallie Mae First Class Teacher of the Year for Pennsylvania, a speaker at the award ceremony insightfully encouraged us to reflect upon this question in the future, “Have you taught for 20 years or have you taught your first year 20 times?”
I was inspired to pursue my passion for lifelong learning and expand my facilitation processes within higher education. Through Early Childhood Professional Development and Teacher Preparation, I could live my vision, driven by my values, to “talk-the-talk and walk-the-walk”.
In 2006 I was introduced to the world of workforce development, specifically through the Pennsylvania community colleges and statewide workforce development organizations. Having worked from the age of twelve, and simultaneously throughout my education, I was surprised to discover a disconnect between education, workforce, business, and entrepreneurship. One might reference that knowledge is power, but knowledge is worthless if not applied; therefore, “Applied Knowledge IS Power”! The Illuminations Consulting Success Processes provide opportunities for individuals and teams to apply knowledge and sustain success.
To drive business development and growth, we must work not only “IN” our business, but “ON” our business. It’s essential for business owners and entrepreneurs to strategically develop and sustain a Competitive Edge. How you are articulating the problems you solve and value you bring to provide the opportunity for customers to buy and clients to engage?
The complex dimensions of today’s competitive global economy require a paradigm shift to focus on leadership and communication to sustain business and organizational success. Organizations with effective leadership and teams are characterized by high productivity, quality, loyalty, morale, creativity, and profitability. Leaders are unique and take initiative…they have passion and purpose…and that passion fosters success! How are you maximizing individual, team, and organizational potential?
Today I celebrate being a business consultant, facilitating success processes, coaching individuals and teams, and supporting you as an accountability partner to ultimately Optimize Your SUCCESS!
